When you’re part of a busy workforce maintaining a hectic day-to-day schedule, you’re bound to feel stressed every so often. In times like these, one of the easiest and most effective ways to manage your stress is to meditate—a practice you can do any time of the day, on any day of the year.
However, when you’re a business owner, you don’t always have a lot of time to sit back and contemplate. But regardless of how busy you are, you surely have a few minutes to spare in a day. Why not use those minutes to reset your mood and get some clarity? Reflections don’t have to take so much time that they cut into your schedule.
A full or half-hour of meditation is a good way to bring your energy up and decrease the negativity in your life. But if your schedule still doesn’t allow that, consider following this five-minute reflection guide instead:
Minute 1: Cool down
If you’re running on a hectic schedule, the odds are high that you’ve got a lot on your mind as well as your plate. So, calming down is essential before you can create any sort of meditative mood. Find a spacious spot where you can sit comfortably in silence. It might also help to have some natural elements around, to make you feel one with nature and consequently feel more at peace.
Then, work on clearing your mind. Push aside all your work concerns for the day—you can think of them later when your meditation is over. Focus on your breathing and work on deepening your inhales and exhales. Emotions may rise to the surface throughout your meditation, but remind yourself to let them go as they come.
Minutes 2 - 4: Contemplate
Five minutes may not seem like a lot of time, but it’s long enough to reflect and set your mind to a more positive mood. Make the most out of your short time by asking yourself questions that have positive answers or by imagining scenarios of peace.
You may try asking yourself one of these:
Take your time to answer these questions. Let yourself detach from work and your personal life, as well as from any other issues bothering you. Focus on positive things rather than exhausting thoughts, like deadlines, work concerns, or stressful events. Redirecting your mind toward happy thoughts charges your energy and brightens up your day.
Minute 5: Hype up
Finally, when it’s time to get back to work, you need to be prepared. Rouse yourself from the calm mood you’ve established without getting overwhelmed by sudden stress. You can do this by organizing your thoughts and allowing them to come to you little by little.
First, identify your next immediate task. Focus on the details of what needs to be done, and recall any important reminders you might have overlooked while you were stressed.
Then, move on to planning the rest of your schedule by prioritizing your tasks and knowing the order in which you’ll finish them. By doing this, you’ll be able to organize your thoughts, and they won't overwhelm you.
Then, before the anxiety kicks in, stem it immediately by telling yourself you can achieve great things throughout the day, week, or month. Soak in some self-love and encouragement. Giving yourself a boost is a great way to hold back whatever negativity you may be feeling, whether consciously or not. Should you ever go back to thinking negatively, tell yourself you can do anything you set your mind to, and you will be all set to succeed.
Finally, when your five minute-reflection is over, you can say a little prayer or take some deeper, calming breaths. Then, it’s time to get back on your feet and face the day with a smile.
A healthy dose of meditation might be all you need to keep fresh ideas flowing. Making this a habit may be one key to boosting your passion to succeed further in business!
Life may sometimes get you down, but there are ways to make yourself feel better.
