In a bid to make filing income tax returns easier, the government has introduced new three-page income tax return (ITR) forms, and has extended the last date of filing to August 31, 2015.
According to a statement by the Finance Ministry, the new forms - ITR 2 and ITR 2A - will have only 3 pages and other details will have to be filled in “schedules” which will be required to be filled only if applicable. In addition, the new forms have done away with the provision for mandatory disclosure of foreign trips and dormant bank accounts. These ITRs will replace the previous 14-page forms that were unanimously hailed as cumbersome and unnecessary.
